Abbas loves going to school
posted April 7, 2011

Ten-year old Abbas lives with his parents in a one-room shack in a slum community in Bandra West, Mumbai. Both his parents are daily wage earners, and even though neither of them is educated, they realize the importance of ensuring that their son has a good education.
Abbas studies in Grade 3 at the Pali Chimbai Municipal School in Bandra. Though building and physical infrastructure of the school is owned by the Government, the school is run by Aseema Charitable Trust (a SeeYourImpact partner), which provides the teachers, the training methodology, the course materials, uniforms and mid-day meals. Both Abbas’ parents take keen interest in his work and always motivate him to do well in school.
Abbas, is a very friendly boy, and his loyalty makes him popular amongst his friends. Though, a first generation learner of English, he speaks and writes English fluently. His favorite subjects are Science and Mathematics. The ‘Activity Based Learning’ principles adopted by the school have enabled Abbas to learn academic concepts at his own pace.
Abbas loves attending school and actively participates in all activities, specially physical activities. He is a very punctual and regular student who always completes his home-work on time. This year, he went on study trips to the local Zoo and the Nehru Science Center. Since Abbas loves computers, he was very fascinated to explore the computerized Science models at the Nehru Science Center.
Your generous donations, Jan, Natasha, Lesley, Elena and Shanen, George, Gillian, Greg and Monica, Bill and Sophia and Larry (x4) will enable Aseema Charitable Trust to provide another year of tuition, to Abbas. Your combined donations will also cover two sets of school uniforms, a raincoat, a pair of shoes, school supplies, and course materials.
Thanks to your support, Abbas can now continue attending school and hope for a bright future!
