Amin loves colours and pictures

amin ali
Amin Shaikh aged four years is a second-year student of Tej, Aseema’s Pre-Primary class at the Santacruz (W) Municipal School. Amin lives with his parents and six older siblings in Lalmitti, a slum community in Bandra West. His father works as a watchman and his mother as domestic help. Amin is mostly looked after by his older sisters as his parents are out working the whole day.

Amin’s first year in school has been an enriching experience. Initially he was quite distracted and playful; however, the warm and homely environment at school has helped him settle. Amin finds yoga and pottery lessons very calming. His teachers have observed a marked improvement in his concentration after these sessions. Amin is fascinated with colors and pictures and is often found browsing through picture books. He is very curious about the names of the pictures.

Amin is attracted to the challenging activities offered by the Montessori Approach. He is now able to identify shapes and sizes. He has made good progress and is able to express himself in short sentences. Study trips to a neighboring train park and the Aarey Milk Colony have made learning a fun and meaningful activity.

Amin’s teachers believe that he has the potential to do well and encourage him to explore his curiosity.

Thank you, Neil (x2), Trish, Mahendra, Gilian (x2), Greg and Monica (x2), James (x2), Jerame and Jeffrey for coming together to support Amin’s education for an entire year. He chances of escaping generational poverty are greatly improved by your generosity.
