Thank you for gifting an entire year of schooling to Deepali.
Deepali Gawali lives in a joint family in Bandra East. Her father works as a housekeeper at a local hotel. To supplement the family income her mother sells home-made food outside their home. Their home is situated in a three-storied chawl with steep steps. Deepali and her siblings have fallen down climbing these steps, and have often missed school. Despite hardships, the parents envision a bright future for their children through education.
Aged five years, Deepali studies in Prithvi, Aseema’s Pre-Primary class at the Kherwadi Municipal School. Her gentle and sensitive nature endears her to her classmates. She is always ready to lend a helping hand to her peers and often coaxes them to say ‘please’, ‘thank you’, etc.
Deepali comprehends instructions in English. A proactive reader, Deepali enjoys reading phonetic books. She is a quick learner and loves learning new activities. The teachers have observed Deepali day dreaming while writing. With encouragement, Deepali can write simple sentences. She can perform addition, subtraction and multiplication up to 4-digit numbers and can identify different shapes with the help of Montessori materials. She is now learning division.
Deepali has inherent colour coordination skills and is able to express herself through art. After a study trip to the Taraporewala Aquarium, she drew a beautiful picture of a fish. Deepali has also been on study trips to the Patwardhan Park and the Nehru Science Centre.
