Peerma Khatik thanks you for ensuring she gets to go to school for an entire year.
Nine year old Peerma studies in Standard III at the Kherwadi Municipal School supported by Aseema in Bandra East. Peerma’s father is a contract labourer and her mother is a housewife. Being the sole bread winner, Peerma’s father is unable to spend time with his children. However, both parents encourage their children to attend school regularly.
Learning through the ‘Activity Based Learning’ approach has taught Peerma to become independent and take ownership of her learning. Peerma enjoys contributing to group activities. Peerma is intelligent; however she gets easily bored and needs encouragement to study. She can read phonetic and non-phonetic books and loves reading newspapers and story books. Peerma enjoys penning down her thoughts. She is often found making notes of interesting events in her calendar.
In Mathematics, she can identify number up to billions, can perform mental math, addition and multiplication up to 2-digit numbers and knows multiplication tables up to 12. Learning Science through experiments has been a fascinating experience. At the Annual Exhibition, Peerma spoke about the timeline of life to visitors. Peerma and her friends have been on study trips to the Nehru Science Centre, Patwardhan Park and INS Vikrant – a naval aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy.
