Cultural events add gaiety to Savita’s learning experience

Savita Rere_picnik
Dear Joe,

Thank you for sending little Savita to school for an entire year.

Three year old Savita Rere lives with her parents in Awalkheda. Her father is a contract labourer. Her mother, a housewife is very involved in Savita’s development. She regularly attends school meetings to discuss Savita’s progress.

This is Savita’s first year in school. She is studying in the Pre-Primary Section at Aseema’s Education Centre in Awalkheda. Over the first semester, Savita has settled down. To help her settle down, her teachers took her around the school and introduced her to Montessori materials. Savita is now confident performing Exercise of Practical Life (EPL) activities such as rolling and unrolling a mat, pouring water, etc. She now instructs the new children to put away their mats properly.

She loves working with matching cards and “I Spy” game, a requisite for pre-reading skills. She has been introduced to vowels and consonants. With the help of sensorial activities, Savita has learnt colours. She enjoys learning numbers through action songs. Savita prefers working with Montessori materials to sports. However, on Sports Day, she was excited to participate in the chocolate unwrapping race.

Savita is also fascinated by the various festivals celebrated in school. Her favourite was Christmas; she was intrigued by the Christmas tree and the crib. She was often found watching ‘Baby Jesus’ in the crib.
